New Principal at SCBS

New Principal at SCBS

2nd March 2022

Dr Oliver Kramer was appointed as the new Executive Principal of SCBS in August. He was born in Germany and studied for his doctorate in the UK. An experienced educator and expert in international education Dr Kramer worked for 11 years at Eton College, has been the consultant for the syllabi of Edexcel and CIE exams for many years and has been a school principal in China for 13 years.

Said Dr Kramer after his appointment: “When I first came here in 2008, the international education market was mainly focused on the children of foreign personnel. Bilingual schools gradually emerged but had not yet received widespread attention. At the time, when there were more foreign teachers, everyone was exploring the integration method. But there were also many problems, as people knew so little about each other.”

Drawing on his extensive experience, he is hoping to develop an education model that is more suitable for China’s bilingual schools and better serves the families of Chinese students.

He hopes that at SCBS, there will be opportunities to do some authentic internationally integrated education. Dr Kramer mentioned that SCBS plans to further improve the curriculum structure and resource allocation. By connecting with the Concord global online education platform, it will enable SCBS students to simultaneously obtain the latest and most authoritative international academic resources without leaving the campus. SCBS with Primary, Middle and High Schools already has two cohorts of graduates with good academic results and excellent university admissions.

Dr Kramer’s own children previously studied in public schools in Hangzhou. He appreciates the scientific emphasis and solid foundation of Chinese elementary education. They have now transferred to SCBS to receive the education that is both traditional and international. He said: “We must maintain the essence of China’s elementary education, learn to integrate and provide the best qualities to SCBS students.”

We wish Dr Kramer every success in his new role and look forward to the continuing partnership with Concord College International.
